Practicum is a course of study designed for student teachers to participate in teaching activities in secondary schools in order to raise the effectiveness of teacher training.

Teachers exercise education theory. In doing so, teachers need the balance between classroom learning and community experience. One cannot be qualified to teach if he or she is only good at classroom learning or vice versa. This step is intended to help student teachers deepen their understanding of current school education and prepare for practical teaching by participating in school education and accumulating classroom teaching experience.

The main purpose of practical teaching is to acquire teaching experience by teaching a lesson independently. At this step, student teachers integrate their classroom learning into real teaching on their own. Through practical teaching, student teachers can discover their aptitude and qualifications as a teacher as well as their weaknesses and strengths in planning and executing lessons. Moreover, students can learn for themselves through experience any discrepancies between education theory and practical teaching.
